IMG_0047artists at the castleIMG_0046I am happy to say that I have been invited to exhibit my work in four more wonderful events in Italy.  They are the International Prize Cita’ Di Noto, The International Prize Michelangelo in Rome, The International prize Leonardo DaVinci in Florence and the Artists at the Castle, held at the Orsini Castle of Nerola near Rome.  There will be a mix of my new and older works on show.  These events all except the Leonardo will take place in December ’15.  The Leonardo will take place 29th Jan 2016. Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend these events but I will be travelling to take part in the triennial Italia in beautiful Verona in June ’16…..And will be having time out to paint plein air in bella Venezia.   Painting like crazy!                                        leonardoLEONARDO

TRIENNALE ITALIA JUNE ’16

triennale ITALIA

I am so thrilled to have been selected to exhibit at the Triennale Italia in Verona so I’m busy getting paintings ready. I will be travelling to Italy for the show. At this point in time I will be presenting figure paintings inspired by the arts and animals and some moody plein air  landscapes.  I’m very much into minimal landscapes… clouds, storms, evening light.  I also think it important to have a break from looking at all the portraits.  I will also be spending time painting in Venice and Rome . I have also been invited by two Rome galleries to exhibit with them so I will be leaving some work behind in Italy.  One of these galleries is listed as one of the ten best galleries in Rome.  And a teaching workshop trip is blowing in the air….Feeling blessed!

Skopelos foundation for the arts, Greece

THE SKOPELOS FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS I have just arrived home after an artists residency on the island of Skopelos in Greece. I did lots of small gouache studies, but didn’t do my best work. I had terribly swollen feet from the flight for the whole 2 weeks making it hard to get around to work plein air. As well as that there was a catastrophic storm with livestock drowned and a lot of damage so it was not the time nor place to ask the island people to sit for portraits as they had other things on their minds.  And it was the portraits that I was interested in more than the beautiful scenery. Never mind. The island of Skopelos is beautiful, a green on blue paradise in the Sporades.   Someone told me that four S words describe the Greek people.  Soul, smile, sun and song!  It is true!  There is a wonderful animal welfare group working there helping the stray dogs and cats.  So good to see!  Selling one of my little gouache studies to a nice artist couple from America was a nice thing.   Also visited Athens and Santorini.  I fell in love with the Greek Islands.  Will I go back one day.  No!  There are other amazing places to explore that I have yet to see.  Would I do another artists residency. No!  As nice as everyone was, I learned a valuable lesson.  I like to work alone.  I like the solitude and I feel a closer connection to my subject when I am alone. Artists residencies just aren’t my thing.  I don’t need to be with other artists to find inspiration, in fact I think I loose it.  Next trip…… a little place on my own with my paints and brushes.

Artists residency – The Skopelos Foundation for the Arts -on the Island of Skopelos, Greece, Sept. ’15

I’m flying to Greece on Wednesday to participate in an artists residency on the Island of Skopelos.  I’m happy to say that my brother is travelling with me.  We will be visiting Athens, Skopelos, Santorini, Austria, Hungary and Bangkok.  Two weeks will be spent on the beautiful Island of Skopelos where I will be painting plein air, enjoying the sights and the Greek food with my big bro. and meeting the friendly Greek people.  An exhibition is planned to follow this wonderful experience.  I may combine it with my ‘Liberty and Alice’ series.  Perhaps it could be called ‘Minotaurs, piglets and rabbit holes’!image4956[5667]

Two new unfinished sculptures June 2015

Posted: June 29th, 2015 by Liadaan.

I’m currently working on these two sculptures, however I have had to wrap them in plastic to keep them damp as I have been called away to work on a painting for an exhibition for UNICEF, the children of Nepal [earthquake] which will be held in Italy.  Back to these when the painting is finished.  They are ‘Alice and the doormouse’ and ‘The cave of the wild dog’.  They are terracotta and yet to have the oxides and underglazes applied
